The Town Clerk is responsible for archiving and maintaining the files of all ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other significant documents. The Town Clerk is also responsible for the recording and preparation of the minutes of the meetings of the Town Commission. The Clerk oversees legal compliance in advertisements for meetings and public hearings and documents that require publication. This official is also responsible for conducting all Town elections. Occupational licensing is conducted through the Town Clerks office.
When are the Longboat Key Preliminary and General Elections Held?
When there are more than two qualified candidates for an elective office on the Town Commission, there shall be a preliminary election held on the 1st Tuesday of February. The general election will be held on the 3rd Tuesday in March, or, when practicable, in conjunction with any Manatee County or Sarasota County election held in March.
How do I become a registered voter?
To become a registered voter you must complete a Florida Voter Registration Application. This application is available at Town Hall (501 Bay Isles Road) or by visiting the Supervisors of Elections Office in Manatee County or Sarasota County.
Can I obtain an absentee ballot?
Yes. If you are unable to go to the polls on election day and wish to vote by absentee ballot, you may call the Town of Longboat Key 941-316-1999 or the Supervisor of Elections Office (Manatee County 941-741-3823 - Sarasota County 941-861-8600) for full information on voting by absentee ballot.
When do the polls open and where are the Longboat Key precincts located?
The polls officially open at 7:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM.

Do I need a Business Tax Receipt to operate a business within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Longboat Key?
Yes. It is unlawful for any person to conduct any business, profession or occupation upon which is levied a Business Tax Receipt license tax without paying such tax to the Town.
Do I need a Business Tax Receipt if I use my residential property as rental property?
Yes. Advertising for rent or renting any real property for residential purposes requires an owner to obtain a Business Tax Receipt prior to offering the property for rent.
