Q: What is the Auto Cart System? A: The Auto Cart System is part of the solid waste collection service for curbside, residential customers. Waste Management will deliver a garbage can, “Auto Cart,” to your residence that can be automatically lifted by equipment on their truck. These containers will only replace your solid waste garbage cans for your Monday and Thursday garbage collection services. Your old garbage cans can be used for your Wednesday yard waste collections. Your red and blue recycling bins will continue to be used on Mondays for your recyclables. Place the cart at the edge of the curb with the handle towards your house with the lid opening facing the street. Carts must be placed away from objects such as mailboxes, telephone poles, trees, water meters, fire hydrants, etc. Q: What are the benefits of the “Auto Cart” Program? A:

Waste Management will deliver the carts (a/k/a garbage cans,
containers, bins) directly to all Q: What goes in the “Auto Cart”? A:
The “Auto Cart” replaces your household garbage container.
Place all garbage in this cart. Q: What size container will be delivered? A: Waste Management will deliver one 64-gallon container to each curbside residential customer. Q: What happens if I want a different sized container? A: Waste Management will deliver a 64-gallon container. For the same rate, you may request a smaller, 30-gallon container or a larger, 96-gallon container. Automated Garbage Collection Container Request forms can be obtained at Town Hall (501 Bay Isles Road), Public Works (600 General Harris Street) or downloaded at www.longboatkey.org or click here. Q: Where can I see a container? A: You can view a container online at www.longboatkey.org or go to Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road, to see the three different sizes or click here. Q: Can I get more than one container? A: Yes. You can request additional containers by filling out an Automated Garbage Collection Container Request form that can be obtained at Town Hall (501 Bay Isles Road), Public Works (600 General Harris Street) or downloaded online at www.longboatkey.org or click here. There is an additional monthly charge of $2.00 per month per additional container. If you request a second cart, place it as outlined above. Carts must be placed at least two (2) feet apart from each other. Any additional garbage is to be securely bagged and placed at curbside at least two (2) feet away from your cart for accessibility. These heavy-duty plastic containers can be cleaned with soap and
water or any cleanser Q: Do the raccoons or other animals get into these containers? A:
No. These containers are designed with lids that cannot be opened
by raccoons or other PROCEDURES: Bulk items such as sofas, dressers and all other large furniture items must be placed at curbside and will be picked up on your second regularly scheduled pick-up day, be a separate truck. All
large appliances should be called in to Waste Management at (941)
753-7591. Pick-up removal days and procedures for yard waste and recyclables will remain the same. Yard waste reminder: tie your tree and similar trimmings into bundles of four (4) feet in length, two (2) feet across and fifty (50) pounds or less. Items such as hedge clippings, grass clippings, leaves and vines are to be containerized in bags or cans. Thank
