RE:   WORKERS’ COMPENSATION EXEMPTIONS

The Town of Longboat Key Building Department received notice from the Workers’ Compensation Division that the Division of Corporations administratively dissolved over 200,000 corporations and LLCs.  In response to that action, the Division of Workers’ Compensation  (DWC) initiated a project to identify all current exemption holders of inactive corporations or LLCs.

Notices are being sent to the 45,725 exemption holders of inactive corporations/ LLC that they have until APRIL 1, 2007, to reactivate their corporation or LLC.  If the corporation or LLC is not reactivated by April 1, 2007, the DWC will initiate proceedings to revoke the exemptions pursuant to s. 120.60, F.S.

If you or another officer of your corporation or LLC has a WC exemption, we strongly suggest that you verify with the Department of State, Division of Corporations, that your corporation or LLC is in good standing; and if inactive, that you take immediate action to reactivate the corporation or LLC before April 1, 2007.

Each contractor and/or officer whose exemption certificates are cancelled by the DWC will be required to provide the Town evidence of workers’ compensation coverage through an insurance policy.  Don’t let your workers’ compensation exemptions lapse because your corporation or LLC has not been maintained in an active status with the State Division of Corporations.
