The goal of the Longboat Key Police Department is to foster a partnership with local businesses and residents. This partnership between police and community provides opportunities for identifying problems and implementing solutions. Working closely with the community enables an officer to know the residents and the residents to become familiar with its officers. The main focus for the Police Department is to meet the needs of the community and enhance quality of life on Longboat Key. |

Our Crime Prevention Officer provides individuals or groups with information on personal safety and home security. The Crime Prevention Officer is available to meet with groups or the individual homeowner to educate the community on how to prevent residential crimes. Officers assigned to bicycle patrol have increased opportunity for interaction with the community. The bicycle patrol officers are highly visible, have greater mobility and are easily accessible by citizens. This increased accessibility fosters interaction between officers and the general public. |

Our Police Department employs officers who specialize in traffic homicide investigations, D.U.I. enforcement and traffic crash investigations. All officers enforce laws which govern the movement of vehicles, bicycles and pedestrian traffic. In addition, our officers assist surrounding agencies with multi-agency D.U.I. check points. |

Our Marine Patrol vessel patrols the waterways that surround Longboat Key. This unit monitors compliance with boating and fishing laws. Vessel inspections are encouraged and are available upon request. Making the waterways safe for all to enjoy is top priority for this unit. |

The Beach Patrol Officer is a civilian position that patrols the beaches enforcing local ordinances, monitoring beach parking and providing assistance as needed. This officer is also EMT certified and is equipped to provide first aid. |

The Communication Center is staffed twenty-four hours, seven days a week by five full time and one part time dispatchers. The center is the final contact point for all Longboat Key 911 calls and is responsible for dispatching police, fire and rescue units when requests for assistance come in. Dispatchers employed at Longboat Key receive specialized training and are certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the National Academy of Medical Dispatch. Dispatchers are trained to handle any type emergency and provide emergency lift support instructions during medical emergencies prior to the arrival of paramedics. |
