Many cyclists and walkers (and butterflies and birds) know Bicentennial Park is a lovely place to enjoy a pause.
The one-acre park, owned by the Town, is a restful, partly sunny/partly shady garden spot just off the bikepath on the corner of Gulf of Mexico Drive and Bay Isles Road, west of Town Hall.
The park was first established through the efforts of the Towns Bicentennial of the Constitution Committee in cooperation with Arvida Corporation and was dedicated July 4, 1976. In 1978 the property was deeded to the Town by Arvida for open space credit. |

The
native setting of the park has been enhanced with shrubs plants and trees
geared toward low maintenance as far as water or fertilizers are
concerned. The park has met the criteria and has been designated by
the State as a Florida Model Garden. Beds of annuals are planted
regularly to add color.
Stop by for a look and relax on the ecologically-correct benches (recycled plastic made to resemble wood) that have been provided by the Longboat Key Garden Club. |
