“Occupational License” is now

Business Tax Receipt

We are pleased to announce various changes and enhancements in the previous Occupational License Program.  Due to changes by the State of Florida Legislature, the Occupational License is now called a Business Tax Receipt.  As part of this change, the Town of Longboat Town Commission adopted Ordinance 2007-14 that updated the Town’s program.  In addition, the Office of the Town Clerk has been working to improve our process to better serve our clients.

Business Tax Receipt Notices

Each year those businesses operating in the Town of Longboat Key, including residential rentals and home occupations, have been issued a new application to apply for the upcoming year and pay taxes as of October 1st. Tax notices for occupational licenses have been updated for those businesses continuing for the  next fiscal year.

Applications are mailed in July. Tax information and payments are due before October 1st. The tax notice includes rates plus penalties for 150 days following the September 30 due date. Remember to fill out the number of units, seats or employees on the form and to send the tax notice, payment made payable to the Town of Longboat Key, and a copy of your current licenses or documentation required by either the County or State.

All taxes that are unpaid as of February 1st will be forwarded directly to the Code Enforcement Board for collection. This Town Board has the authority to add fines to late fees already imposed and request the business owner to also pay an administrative fee as well as attorney's fees. Liens can also be placed against the business or property if left unpaid.

Any questions will be answered by the Office of the Town Clerk's Business Tax Receipt Licensing Official at 316-1999, extension 261.

AVAILABLE ONLINE

IMPORTANT NOTE: This electronic version is based on ordinances codified to date.  All adopted ordinances are effective, however, whether or not they have been codified.

An additional service called OrdLink™ is provided to alert users, on a monthly basis, that amendments have been made to certain sections of the Code with a link pointing to the OrdLink™ page.  The OrdLink™ page provides a table of these ordinances and a list of the sections affected by each ordinance adopted since the Code was last updated; when the user clicks on the ordinance number they will go directly to the ordinance.

Website users can also contact the Town Clerk’s Department for updates.
