GENERAL ELECTION QUALIFYING PERIOD OPEN

THE QUALIFYING PERIOD FOR THE MARCH 17, 2020, GENERAL ELECTION IS OPEN.

The qualifying period for the March 17, 2020, General Election is from October 1, 2019, through November 18, 2019, by 12:00 noon.

An elector seeking qualification as a proposed Commission candidate of the Town shall submit the following Florida Election forms, available in the Town Clerk's office, prior to obtaining petitions:

DS-DE 9 - Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository for Candidates

DS-DE 84 - Statement of Candidate

DS-DE 302NP - Candidate Oath, Nonpartisan Office

Form 1 - Statement of Financial Disclosure

On the filing of the forms listed above, the proposed candidate will receive petition forms from the Town Clerk.  At least 10 properly completed petitions, signed by electors of the Town, need to be completed.  Petitions shall be filed with the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) office in the county in which the electors signing the petitions are registered to vote.

Petitions must be filed with the SOE office no later than November 18, 2019 by 11:00 a.m. and certified by the SOE office with notice of certification to the Town Clerk no later than 12:00 noon on November 18, 2019. 

The proposed candidate is responsible for ensuring his/her submitted petitions are properly completed and timely processed by the Supervisor of Elections office where the petitions are filed.

The following Districts are scheduled for the March 17, 2020, General Election:

District 1 - Sarasota County

District 3 - Sarasota County

District 5 - Manatee County

District At-Large - Townwide

In those cases where a proposed candidate is qualifying for a particular district, the petitions for the candidate must be signed by electors from that district, certified in the County in which the electors are registered to vote.

Proposed candidates seeking the District At-Large seat may obtain signatures of any 10 electors of the Town, certified in the County in which the electors are registered to vote.  It is recommended, but not required, that all petitions for the District At-Large seat be signed by electors of one County.
