Town of Longboat Key, FL
Home MenuTransition to Accela Permitting Software
On April 22, Longboat Key will replace its current permitting system with an enhanced program called Accela Citizen Access that is already in use by Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties, along with the City of Tampa. If you are a builder, developer, architect or contractor working in Longboat Key, here’s what you need to know.
Why is the Town switching permitting systems?
The Town’s current system (BS&A) was installed in 2017. Access by the public to the data stored within the existing system is limited and the ability to file applications electronically is limited. The move to Accela will provide a standardized, cloud-based solution that will provide better service to customers, the public and staff.
Who else is using Accela Civic Apps?
Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties, along with the City of Tampa, are all using Accela with a high level of satisfaction.
How will the transition take place?
To prepare for the launch, the current permitting system will be unavailable starting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16.
On April 17th, 18th and 21st, there will be limited permitting services available. The Planning, Zoning & Building Department offices will be closed to walk-ins to allow staff to transfer from our current system to Accela. Accela will then go live starting at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22nd.
Are there instructions for how to use Accela?
Additional instructions are being developed on how to register and submit permits on Accela and will be posted on the Town's Planning, Zoning and Building Department website.
How will the new system help me?
Because many of the members of the local construction community also operate in neighboring counties that use Accela, users should be relatively familiar with how the program works.
- The program is built on the experiences of hundreds of Planning and Building departments throughout the country and Florida, which will allow Longboat Key to apply clear, standardized processes to the local construction industry.
- Customers will be able to upload plan sets through the same web portal they use when applying for permits. This will ensure that the customer and the Town are always working on and accessing the same version of a plan set or sheet. No more transporting plan sets to the building department.
- Workflows will be streamlined and simplified, speeding the intake, review, and permit issuance process.
- Accela will keep users’ confidential information private and secure.
